In Flanders Fields
BackIn Flanders Fields
Throughout the last week, 3F have been thinking about Remembrance Day and what it means to us. For their art lesson last week, they decorated some beautiful 3D poppies which are now brightening up our classroom. That led us to discuss the significance of the poppy and what it symbolises on Remembrance Day. We read a wonderful poem ‘In Flanders Fields’ by John McRae and everyone shared their thoughts on remembrance. Here are a few:
“A poppy is a flower we wear to remember those who have died in wars.” Finlay
“The wars took many lives, and many sacrifices were made for our freedom.” Ariana
“The poppies grew on the battlefields where soldiers fought and died.” Saskia
We also discussed the resilience of the poppy, how it grew in the bleakest and starkest of conditions when all other living things had perished, and the hope and renewal that it represents.
