Nursery - Learning about people who help us!
BackOur theme this term is all about people who help us. We started off learning about the people who help us in school, and then talked about doctors, nurses, paramedics and dentists. Next we moved onto firefighters, police, vets, and our very own School Patrol Officer, Mark, who helps us to cross the road outside school safely.
So far, we have been for a walk around school to find the people who help us at Lady Barn and we have also welcomed Dr Alamgir, who explained all about what doctors do, and in particular what she does as a cardiologist. Dr Alamgir then read us a book about keeping your heart healthy.
Later on that week, our very own School Nurse, Mrs Butt, came in to tell us about her role in school. She showed the children the kinds of equipment she uses and read a lovely story about a nurse.
We also had a very special visit from a team of paramedics, who even brought their ambulance too. They came to talk to us about their job and how they help us. We also learnt that very important number to call if there was an emergency - ‘999’.
We looked at the paramedic uniform and had the opportunity to try it on. We really enjoyed looking at the equipment the paramedics may need to use, if somebody is feeling poorly in the ambulance. We saw stethoscopes, thermometers, torches and lots of machines that they might have to use in an emergency. We even had a go at applying bandages! We found out that paramedics do not just work in the daytime but also in the evening too; what busy people they are!
