Children love stories and at Lady Barn House School, we recognise the importance of nurturing and extending this enthusiasm, particularly in the light of the competing demands of electronic games and devices.

As well as a modern and varied reading scheme, the school has two well-stocked libraries, from which children borrow books each week.

Lady Barn House School regularly hosts award-winning authors such as Ross Mackenzie, Rob Biddulph and Matt Brown. Our pupils love to hear these writers talk about their ideas and the inspiration for their books. Author Faye Evans visited school on World Book Day to read her new book to the younger children, and a much anticipated ‘Audience with Francesca Simon’, of Horrid Henry fame, took place earlier this year.

An enjoyment of reading leads naturally to a desire to write stories. Pupils take part in national writing competitions, whilst the older children write and edit the school magazine, Lady Barn Life.
